Your CV for each job ad

The CV Beacon read, and the CV it writes for you to send

Beacon keeps two CVs. What Beacon read is a record of your upload, to check. Your CV, written by Beacon is a document to send: your upload, with the lines your answers earned, tailored to each job ad you check.

Every line is from your document, an answer you gave, or your own words. Nothing you have not shown is written in.

Open what Beacon read, on Your CV in Settings, shows the full record: every role with its dates, every skill, your education, and What your CV does not say. If a role is missing here, it is missing from everything Beacon writes.

Adding your own lines

Or two questions about it

When a recent role has a title and dates and nothing you did, Beacon says so at the top of What Beacon read. That is the part a reader looks at first.

  • Add two lines to write them yourself: what you were responsible for, and something that changed because of you, ideally with a number.
  • Answer two questions instead, and Beacon turns your answers into lines. With Coach you can record an answer rather than type it.

Either way, nothing reaches your CV until you check the lines and save.

Your CV, written up

Open your CV shows the document itself, not a mock of it. Beside it:

  • Lines your answers earned: when a practice answer shows something your CV does not say, it becomes a line here. Untick any that are wrong for this CV, and the preview updates as you go. A line marked Suggested waits for your tick.
  • Mark what was added highlights the new lines in the document.
  • Never added: not shown yet lists what a job ad asks for that you have not shown. These never reach the CV until an answer shows them. Take this as a sheet downloads them to prepare from.

The roles print newest first, with a current role at the top.

Download PDF gives you the file, and Copy as plain text copies it for a form. On the free plan the PDF carries a small line at the foot: "Prepared with Beacon · trybeacon.eu". With Coach it does not.

Tailored for a job ad

The same CV, tailored for one job ad

The Tailored for a job ad tab writes your CV for one job: a new summary, and the skills the job ad asks for first. It never adds a claim your answers have not earned. With more than one job, change picks another.

You also get there from the job page: See the tailored CV, under CV changes for this job.

Templates

Four templates, the same words Four templates, the same words
Four templates, the same words

Choose a template lays out the same words four ways:

  • Clarity: plain and safe, one column, standard headings.
  • Ledger: leads with three results in figures, when your CV prints them, before the roles.
  • Signal: a strong header, each employer on its own band, skills as tags.
  • Compact: dense and calm for long careers.

Clarity downloads free. You can preview the other three on the free plan, and they download with Coach. Every template is real text in reading order, with no photos, icons or charts.
